Yhayha A. Hargrove is a native of Richmond, Virginia. Although nursing was her first career choice, since preschool age she has had a relentless allure to creating two dimensional art. Her images are inspired by her intrigue in the aesthetics and the psyche of the Black experience in America. The culture, music, history, and social and personal challenges and triumphs are all-inclusive and often display elements which reference an African heritage. She creates fine art in a didactic approach of word and image with a selection of media all aggregating a confirmed theme. As a self-taught artist, in order to hone her skills, Yhayha has randomly sought critiquing of her art by attending selective adult study art classes under professional tutelage. She has held membership in BAAAR since 2016 as well as other art groups with a focus on the diaspora. Creative works in Yhayha’s repertoire have been included in several group exhibitions in Richmond and surrounding cities, and Sichuan, China with private ownership as well as the permanent collection of Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems in Richmond.
