After graduating from Maggie L. Walker High School in 1970, she gained employment with the State of Virginia Medical College of Virginia Health System in the Department of Clinical Pathology.

Although she always yearned to express her God given artistic abilities, other responsibilities came first and little time to pursue painting. After her family became less dependent on her, she found time again to pick up the paintbrush in the late 1990s.

Her works have been displayed at MCV Hospital, Crossroads Art Gallery, Newsome House Museum, Gallery 21, The General Assembly, several church and school functions, home and art shows and bizarres. Barbara is an active member of the Black American Art Alliance of Richmond.

Barbara’s art works have won several awards and honorable mentions. Her works called ‘Gowns’ and ‘The General Store’ are on permanent display at VCU Health and are also featured in the lobby of New Bridge Baptist Church where she is an active member. Several of her paintings are owned by private collectors.
